SIA Door Supervisor Training

Door supervisors are often the first point of contact between many businesses and members of the public. It is important that they are effectively trained and meet legal requirements in what can be a challenging environment.

About the Qualification
The Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry is aimed at learners who want to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work legally as a door supervisor. Based on the SIA’s own specifications and regularly updated to meet the latest requirements, the qualification covers essential knowledge and skills for the role.

Course Duration
To complete this qualification, learners are required to undertake approximately 61 hours of learning, which includes guided self-study. The SIA mandates a minimum of 44 contact hours (typically delivered over 6 days) when self-study is completed.

Course Content Includes:
- The main characteristics of the Private Security Industry
- The importance of safe working practices
- Drug misuse legislation
- Issues and procedures relevant to the role of a door supervisor
- Licensing law
- Queue management
- How to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
- Problem-solving techniques when resolving conflict
- Physical intervention and the implications of their use
- The use of non-aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others

Entry Requirements
Learners must meet the following requirements to enrol on this qualification:

• Age Requirement:
Learners must be 18 years or older.

• English Language:
Learners must have a good level of English (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
This will be confirmed through an initial assessment before the course begins.

Identification – Acceptable Forms of ID:
Learners must provide:
One Group A ID (e.g., Passport, UK Driving Licence, Biometric Residence Permit), OR
Two Group B IDs (e.g., Bank Card, Utility Bill, Birth Certificate, Council Tax Letter).
All ID must be original, valid and in-date.
(These ID requirements follow SIA and Awarding Body guidelines.)

Proof of Address:
A recent proof of address (within the last 3 months) may be required depending on the course.

Additional Requirements (Course-Specific):
Some SIA courses (such as Door Supervisor, Door Supervisor Refresher) may require:
Completion of a First Aid qualification (EFAW or equivalent), valid within the last 12 months.
