Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Training

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for learners who wish to become emergency first aiders in the workplace. It is ideal for employees in low-risk or lower-hazard environments, or for those identified as needing emergency first aid skills through their employer’s first aid needs assessment.

Course Overview
This qualification covers essential first aid knowledge and skills, enabling learners to respond effectively to a range of emergency situations. Learners will gain the confidence and competence to act safely, promptly, and appropriately when faced with an incident or illness at work.

How long is the course?
Learners should expect to undertake a minimum of 6 hours of guided learning, typically completed in one full day.

What you will learn (Topics Covered):
Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
How to assess an incident
Managing an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
Managing an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally (CPR & AED)
Seizures
Wounds, bleeding and shock
Choking
Minor injuries
How to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
Safely using an AED (defibrillator)

Is this training required?
Employers are legally required to ensure that an appropriate number of staff are trained in first aid, based on their workplace first aid needs assessment.
The EFAW course provides staff with essential skills to meet workplace safety responsibilities.

Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old
Learners must be physically able to perform CPR (kneeling on the floor)

Assessment Method
Practical demonstrations
Multiple-choice knowledge assessment

Certification
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.
This qualification is valid for 3 years.
